I spent many summers as a camper and even as a CIT along with retreats. This is one of the best memories I have, This camp will be very missed. It was a great place to learn how to be independent, rough it and have Mass under beautiful trees. Wonderful!
Many a fond memory I have of this special place in the woods ! Looking back on my childhood , Pendola gave me a sense of autonomy from an early age that helped me grow into a responsible and contributing member of society . I appreciate the efforts the camp has taken to make it even more authentically Catholic ! I am now sending my youngest daughter after having sent my older one with great success. I highly recommend this camp to those who want their children to grow in freedom and independence in excellence. P. S. roughing it a bit is good for one’s character !
It's been over 45 years since I was last at Camp Pendola/Camptonville as a young teen. Had to deal with homesickness so it wasn't a fun time for me. Now, later in life, it's HUGE on my need to revisit. Think about it all the time. I know what I missed out on and I'm super eager to get back to yesteryear if for no other reason than smell the pine air and reminisce about a crush I had on one of the counselors! :)
Being at Camp Pendola for a week was one of the worst experiences in my life. It was anything but "Christian." A lot of the fellow campers were juvenile delinquents. They stole a lot of my belongings. I was harassed and bullied from the moment that I arrived. The staff and clergy didn't care at all. Horrible place. Avoid.
We just picked up our daughter today from her first week of camp. When we asked what her favorite part of camp was, she heartily replied "EVERYTHING!!!!".
