Potwisha Campground in
Three Rivers (CA)

This is a great campsite for family or solo travelers. Flush toilets, sinks inside and outside the bathroom, and they're well lit at night. Certain sites are more open then others, we were in 35 and was able to put a pop-up camper right under the tree. Quiet neighbors and maintained area. Seemed pretty close to all the spots you want to visit in Sequoia, not sure about Kings Canyon since we didn't stay long enough for that. We would stay here again.

The Campsite is easy to find at the beginning of the park, when looking at the forecast look at Three Rivers not the National Park. The tent pads are rocky and definitely not level. The worst part though was the hornets, NOT BEES! Everytime we took any food out we were swarmed. They do bite to get you away so they can steal food. My kids were literally in tears hiding in the tent till dark for any kind of food.

We have stayed at site 15 for two nights this past weekend. It didn’t feel private and the bees made it impossible to cook at the campsite. On positive note the campground is closed to all main Sequoias attractions.

Perfect location and a short walk to the river. Clean flush toilet. A short drive to Sequoia trees and Moro Rock. Some sites are not level and lots of shrub. But there are beautiful sites we saw and will book next time. Yes, coming back. The children enjoyed this campground.

Camped here a few nights during 4th July week and like other reviewers said, this campground is at least 10-15c hotter than at higher elevation at lodgepole. We had a trailer at site 23 and an RV at site 22 close to the entrance. Site 22 is nice and shady but it barely fits our 24 ft camper. Site 23 gets a lot of sun, with shades closer to the trees. No firewood or charcoal allowed while we were there. These sites are close to the dumpster and we heard the garbage truck bright and early at 7am one day. The bathrooms were ok clean. There is an RV dump station across the road but someone cut off the hose connector, fortunately there is a faucet near the bathroom to fill water. Rangers came by every day and people were respectful. I would come to this site again but in the spring or fall in cooler weather. We left the day after July 4th and beware the line to get into the park from hwy 189 was miles long.

Honestly this campground kinda sucks. Some sites are basically unusable as tent sites (site 7 & 8 barely have room for a 2 person tent!) and this campground won't cool down compared to others in the area due to its location. I would honestly try to go to any other site in the park.

Wow, the campground was great, campsites spaced out. No guard on duty. Best you have reservations first. Location to Sequoia National Park not too far but the road is challenging to get here, a lot of curves. Maybe, one of my favorite CG. Just a beautiful area.

The campground itself is pretty cool, we reserved site #20 to be next to the Marble River. What’s not so cool is getting to your “reserved” site to find campers already in place using the site. We had to ask people to leave our site just as every other camper with reservations around us had to. If paying a fee to reserve a site, I’d expect someone to be enforcing it.

Good location, near the entrance and good start to the day to start driving up to Sherman tree and/ or Moro rock. Trail to see the waterfalls is right inside which is very convenient. Bathrooms are well kept and everyone was respectful of the campground rules. You can see the stars and moon at night so well. Very quiet and can hear the river behind you. I personally liked the lower campground number 23.

Camped at site #22. Pretty secluded camp site next to the creek. Wasn’t too close to the other campsites. We tent camped and still had a huge amount of space. Stayed for one night mid Oct ‘24 and there were no campfires allowed which was a bummer. Wasn’t too cold either since we’re at the base of sequoia. Only ever seen a park ranger once when we were packing up to leave. Bathrooms were well maintained and had soap and toilet paper always on deck. Bear lockers were exceptionally large. Its our first time camping in bear territory and we were kind of nervous we wouldn’t be able to fit all our things. It fit our 65 qt and 48 qt cooler + 22 inch black stone with extra room to spare for all our other scented items.

This is a cool spot for families to hang. It’s low elevation so you don’t have to drive too deep into the park. The bathrooms are surprisingly clean. And there are several nearby. I didn’t see any showers, but that’s OK. You get the full experience. Other than that, they have RV hook ups and places where you can wash your dishes, including running water. and the camper close by each other, which is ideal for large groups.

What a beautiful campground!!! We had Site #16 and enjoyed our 2 night stay here very much. Had a 30 feet rv and it fit perfectly in. With much longer vehicles, it might get hard to drive the campground. Site was very unlevel. Nice private access to the river in only 2 minutes. Unfortunatly no fires were allowed.

So the location was great but our camp site was a little hard to find because we weren't given a map or any clear directions. Our spot was big which gave us some privacy but the campers coming in late while we were asleep sounded like they were coming over the hill and straight into our tent. And the bees. .. oh the bees, They drove us INSANE until dark. The people before us left trash all around the site that we had to pick up. The bathrooms were conveniently located for us and seemed to be maintained. There is a locking bear box.

Nice little NP campground at the lower end of Sequoia. We'll appointment, dump station right opposite. Most sites are due tenting but a few big and flat enough for trailers and motorhomes. Lovely Creek a short walk away

This campground seemed to be completely unsupervised; we stayed there for one night and didn't see any rangers or camp hosts. Nevertheless, the bathrooms were ok. Showers are not available.

This is a nice campground situated right next to the river. It was a quiet peaceful camp ground. There is no loud noise allowed after 10 pm. It has RV access. But I believe 30 ft long is the maximum length allowed. During the fire season you are not allowed to have camp fires. Gas grills are allowed. There are no showers. But the bathrooms are descent. Some of the camping spots are equipped with plug in power. I would suggest you make reservation ahead. The charge was 30 dollars for entry. We stayed for the weekend. The seqouia trees are approximately a 30 to 40 minute drive up the mountain. I highly suggest you go there. It was an awesome experience. I will tell you don't waste your time on visiting the museum. They do have a very convenient shuttle service though. To go back and forth to the parking lot. The picture are at the seqouia trees forest.

A campground of the more basic sort. I would imagine it works really well, for people in tents or camper vans. But our 25" RV was not able to stand on level ground at all, on the site allotted to us. Otherwise the actual site has a decent location. A stone throw away form a part of the river, with dipping/swimming spots, that sees a fair amount of activity during the weekend.

The campground has a great location at the bottom of the mountains near a creek and Marble Falls trailhead. There are actually two restrooms, though one is hidden. No showers but there are dish washing stations at each restrooms. No water faucets except at the restrooms. Bring bug spray as there were a good number of mosquitoes in May 2024. Larger number sites are closer to the loud but pretty creek while lower number sites are quieter and on higher ground.

We really liked this area. It was really beautiful and there are 2 trails right off the campground. One is to marble falls, which is a more difficult trail. The other is to a suspension bridge, which is easy. We did run across a bear trying to get into the trash bins at night, but it didn't seem to bother anyone outside of that. We liked watching the gopher that seemed to live at our site while we ate breakfast. Its around an hour drive up the mountain to the museum/gift shop. There were a few more trails in that area. My only complaint is the host didn't enforce reasonable noise levels. We were a ways down from a group that was playing music so loud that we could hear it over the generator in the site next to us. The dump station is right across the road and was very clean. We will be using this campground again!

My 1 year old grandson enjoyed camping in Sequoia National Park. He loved the water even though it was freezing cold. I've been coming to Sequoia and King Canyon for 50 years. My grandson is the fourth generation to camp out in these beautiful mountains.

Great location as a stop into or out of the park. There are no hookups but there are flush toilets and a sink with a basin and potable water. Site 11 is not level for a camper van. You do get an okay view of the mountains. The campgrounds were generally clean. No noise until morning when some kids were playing soccer in the road. This campground feels safe. There is a trail nearby (Marble Falls). It's fine as a stop, not sure I'd make it a destination.

Quiet campground with great amenities, including running water rest rooms and an outdoor sink for dishes etc. It was very quiet at night and quickly accessible from the southwest corner. Visitor center is close by to explore facts, buy gifts, and talk to the Rangers

We struggled a bit in this campground. First and foremost, our campsite for our campervan was anything but level. Living out of the van, we have camped in numerous places, and never have we had so much trouble with attempting to level it. It got to the point where we considered just relocating to some parking lot instead, but we ended up staying. The campsite came with a bear box, a fire pit, picnic table and benches. Also a rope that someone had tied around one of the trees and then not bothered to remove when they left. Whether there was any camp host was not at all clear. Certainly, no one enforced any noise/quiet hour rules, and some inconsiderate camper brought a large speaker, placed it outside and blasted music for all to hear. The toilets were OK, neither particularly clean or dirty, and there was a dishwashing sink outside. The trash bins seemed oddly dirty and dusty, and the whole place had a vibe to it as had it been almost abandoned, despite being full of campers. Out of all the campsites we have visited inside national parks, there are only 2 that I have no desire to return to, and unfortunately, because of the above, Potwisha Campground is one of them. On a positive note, it is placed inside the national park and is close to trails.

July 2 Sunday was so hot we just could not camp. We stayed util 6pm and our spot 38 did not have any tree hence we couldn’t camp due heat. Now just for note This camp ground is right at the entrance of the sequoia national park. From this point to the general Sherman tree or the Kings canyon there is more than 1 hr drive, Hence it is better to camp at others spots. Just my opinion otherwise there is lot of back and forth driving. Due to summer there were lot of bugs too.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a two week long trip. This campground was one of my favorites. The sites are decently spaced and most are shaded. Our particular campsite was next to the creek which gave us the beautiful sound of rushing water all night. Every site has bear boxes with plenty of room for everything. The bathrooms were clean and there is a water fountain available.

We camped here the first week of Sept. 2018. This was the 1st stop of our road-trip north to visit the parks. We reserved our site (#5) online and it was marked with our name when we arrived. We were staying in a tent and the campsite had a nice, leveled-out, smooth spot just for tents... so this was great! There was also room to pull in our car and the site included a picnic table and 'bear box'. It is required to store you food in the metal, on-site bins to keep bears from getting stuff. Luckily we didn't see any bears. ||The campground was in a good location - just outside of Sequoia / Kings Canyon park (proper). So it was easy to get up in the morning and get going on our daily adventures! Cons -- We thought there would be a showers and there were NONE. So we went 2 1/2 days without bathing - not so great when sharing a tent - LOL! Also, as others have mentioned, it was very warm at night in this campground. Although there were nice breezes all around the mountains, there were none here. It was hot in our tent until like 2 AM where it started to cool off. There were also a lot of bees in the mornings, that seemed to be attracted to our white car. So not too fun there either. Next time, I'd look for a campsite with shower facilities. Oh, and one more thing... the stars in the nights' sky were AMAZING!

First campgroundinside the park. You can’t take anything over 22 feet past this area. Had to make a reservations as it is busy this time of year. The park is George ours with plenty of space between spots. The pull through spots aren’t very level and that is why only gave it four stars. Back in spots are better for leveling. Nice restrooms and very friendly camp hosts. There is a river that runs through the park and we caught trout in the river. Nice sound in the evening. There is a good long hike right from our site to some great falls. We even had deer walk through our campsite. Will definitely comeback here again.
