The Salmon River Outpost is an absolute oasis! After miles of rugged Northern California driving, walking into this store feels like a warm hug. It’s so much more than a general store, it’s the soul of Somes Bar. They have a surprisingly curated selection of organic groceries, local artifacts, and the best Mexican Mocha I’ve ever had.

Joe and his team helped us out when our car broke down after rafting the Klamath . We were so fortunate to have Joe & team generously come to our aid in our time of need. We couldn’t have made it home without all of their kindness & support - thank you so much!

Been on the road a long, long time. This place was a major highlight of my stops. Super friendly staff, amazing coffee, tons of great Knickknacks and food for sale. 11/10 experience.

Wonderful place to stop on the way into the Marble Mountains, or on the way out. Cold local beers, snacks and a full range of food staples, small gear/items you forgot you needed, handmade crafts, awesome staff, it has everything!

Under new ownership! We can see that Elly and Joe are already making great changes to the store, bringing in new items, cleaning and caring for the place. They’ve got great plans so we can all watch as things develop. Visit their suggestion box too. Native owned! We love getting our favorite frozen treats and eating them sitting in the porch in the shade.

CJ and the bunch run a great little operation with free wifi in what is otherwise a rugged and isolated wilderness. I really appreciate the simple fact that they have both peach Bundaberg from Australia and coconut cream popsicles from Mexico in the middle of nowhere.

Stop in!!!!! Always friendly, great pit stop for a few camping, or river essentials. Especially if you end up in the Klamath basin with no provisions! Very much an oasis in this vast wilderness! I can't imagine its a business that makes a great deal of money, But they provide such a great service to those exploring these rivers! Hats off to these folks!!!!!

The salmon River Outpost used to be called the Somes bar general store.I have seen the store change ownership four times in my day,and yes I love that store. But with a struggling economy and the COVID-19,the Salmon River Outpost is having a tough time staying in Business.I hope the present owner understands just how important, and how special the store is to our community, the store is part of us. Surprising store, in the middle of nowhere you can find good product for fair prices, as all little store most common product are a bit expensive but look well and you'll find alternatives of what you need. That's what this place has to offer, Choice!

I watched this store go through a few owners when I was growing up and the current owners are great. They do their best to source locally and have organic options. People drive from Orleans to shop here even though they have their own store.

This is one of my favorite stores I have ever visited. I wish I lived closer just so I could frequent it more often. Great options, prices, and atmosphere for a store that is off the beaten path. Staff is friendly, store is very cool with awesome history. Every time I’m in the area I will be sure to make a stop, even if I don’t need anything. Thanks Salmon River Outpost for being there when I needed you!

Good store, well-stocked, reasonably priced for what and where it is. They have organic stuff if that's what you want, and regular stuff. They have tortillas with a bigger diameter than my car's tires. Some fancy food, like locally produced goat cheese (pricey! but probably what you'd pay in town) Lots of basics. Cool selection of books, too.

This historic store is beautiful, a hidden gem tucked away in sacred Native land with all kinds of foodstuffs, gifts, and local artifacts for sale. Though it’s definitely got some good stuff, be careful. This place is super rural. I bought a couple of bottles of wine thinking (since they were over $20-30 a bottle) they were representative of local fare but both were spoiled and corked. Bummer.

We were having tire issues and stopped at Salmon River outpost. Al, the employee working at the time was amazing. The store is supplied with anything you might need for your travels. I highly recommend taking the time to stop.

I'm a local and the employees are all friendly and I enjoy the small talk. It's pretty quiet until summer time lots of tourism. It's the basic small town shop. Only one in town. Closes at 7 in the winter. Closest gas station is 8 miles away and closes at 6 on weekdays and 5 on weekends so if your passing though make sure your gonna have gas. Theirs no hotels or motels.

This store has a thoughtful selection of groceries, killer espresso (with nice crema and flavor!) as well as the work of local artists and books on indigenous peoples of the area. If I'd had more room in my pack I would have grabbed some books as well as the lovely handmade pottery coffee cones sold here.

March 2015 M/C trip down Klamath River to coast. This store is a flash from the past and a must stop! Streach out your legs and get something to drink. Good info. When was the last time you saw p.o. boxes with the little dial on the front. Most sacred area for Native American is Ishi Pishi Falls. Please Be respectful!

Mexican Mocha.....really the best coffee in a couple of hours drive. Place reminiscent of 'Nothern Exposure' for those that remember it; laid back and peaceful.
