I'm pretty new to the Central Coast and have struggled to find a shop that Is fair, friendly, and trustworthy. Mike and Delaney both are super awesome and personable! I know nothing about cars but never felt I was being spoken down to or sold on something I didn't understand because both of them took the time to communicate at my level.
I hope I don't need a mechanic but if I do, Nelson's Garage is where I will be going!
Excellent customer service and a great resource for classic cars. Mike is friendly and very knowledgable when it comes to classic cars. Delaney is so nice to work with in the front office too. Highly recommend Nelsons Garage!
Michael at Nelson's Garage absolutely saved my bacon today. He offered to lend me his Battery Jump Pack (they don't offer towing or a jump-start service). Nelson's is less than 1/4 mile from the Cayucos pier, so a 6 minute walk each way, and I was back in business.
If you have auto trouble when in Cayucos, Nelson's is the absolute best place to go.

I had my oil changed and wiper blades replaced. The total price was very reasonable. Mike, the mechanic who serviced my van, was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and skilled. I studied the invoice and noticed checking my tires' air pressure was included as part of the service. The next day my tires air pressure light came on. I called and brought my van back in. Mike found the "problem" tire immediately, resolved the matter, and checked the other three. I've only lived in the community for a little over a month but am glad I have found a reliable garage that has gained my trust and patronage.
I will only go to Nelson's garage with our cars. I literally saved over a thousand dollars going there. They are friendly and professional from the time you drop off your vehicle until you pick it up. It's hard to find any of these places anymore.

We lost our transmission and coasted in to Cayucos.Spent the night while Nelson’s installed a used transmission.This was thirteen years ago.Good people to do business with.Will always have fond memories of Cayucos !

We were visiting Cayucos for the weekend when our car just wouldnt start. We were stranded and had to find a mechanic, check the area and found Nelson's Garage, he was booked for the week and told us it was going to take a while to get to it. Within a week he called me and told me he had found the problem and gave me a fair price! Totally recommend this place!!

The most honest repair place I have ever experienced. I live in orange county ca and come up to help my 90 year young mom every month. They diagnosed what needs to be done now and what can be done later.

I was lied to and ended up paying $500 more than I should have.

My first bad review. Normally if I have a bad experience with a business I just let things slide and don't shop there anymore. I don't like to spread negativity. But paying $500 more for something is a lot more serious than a bad meal and I feel I have a duty to warn my friends and others. After all, this is one of the main functions of Yelp, right?
I'm not sure if the ownership has changed or if something else has changed. As far as I knew and read, Nelson's had a great reputation as being honest. My mom has even been taking her car here for years, said good things about it, and recommended it to me.
Unfortunately, I found out the hard way. The timing belt on my car went out and I was told the valves would also need to be fixed. I let them know I was selling the car and just wanted the minimum fixed. I was quoted between $900-$1200 for their labor and told the machining shop that they would send the head to would probably charge $300-$400. I was told the final charge could possibly be higher depending only on if the machine shop charged a lot more than expected. I got a call from Nelson's He told me he dropped the head off at the machine shop and the final bill for everything was actually going to be higher, about $2000. I didn't question it because he let me know it could be higher if the machine shop charged a lot, so that's what I assumed. My wife picked up the car and paid. After a couple days, I glanced at the bill and was shocked to see the machine shop only charged about $300 and Nelson's did a bunch of extra stuff that I was never asked about or told, like a new battery, water pump and a few other things that weren't absolutely necessary. They completely LIED to me.
If you have plenty of money, you want a mechanic that will fix or replace everything they can find, then charge you after the fact without warning or permission, and you don't have an issue with the ethics of it, then Nelson's is fine for you.
But be warned, if you're a single income household with two kids like myself and you don't just have an extra $500 to spend, go somewhere else.
