Mission San Juan Bautista is the only mission in California that has been operating continuously since the 18th century. They still hold services almost every day, which adds to its historical significance. The museum is also worth visiting and provides great insight into the mission’s rich history.

Great stop on the way up 101 to San Francisco. One of many Missions. Worth the few dollars entrance.

Such a beautiful mission!! We came with our child’s 4th grade class. Had the best time! Come early for good parking and photo opts as it gets busy with other schools visiting.

I had no idea this mission even existed, except for the sign I saw on Hwy 101, but it was well worth the detour even though I got here after everything was closed. The mission is surrounded by buildings that are also owned by the state parks, and all are well-preserved. They open at 10:30 every morning and close at 4:30, which is a little too early in the summer, but you can see a lot of the stuff through the windows. The last few photos are of the 3rd street, which is one block over, and which also preserved it's 1800s character. The park across the street has a little log cabin they moved over there after they tore down the old Wells Fargo hotel, which is really a shame. But definitely take the detour and go visit this place cuz it's better preserved than most of the other California missions, blessed house all of the surrounding buildings that are also well-preserved.

The mission is incredible and rustic. The museum is s must see. It's right next to the church. It is small, but there is so much to see and learn. I recommend going!

We have a lot of fun going through this mission. It's nice because the museum is incorporated into the mission building. So you really get to see the old architecture and see artifacts from mission time.

As a wedding photographer, I've had the privilege of capturing countless love stories in various places. This is my 6th time at the San Juan Bautista Mission. I had the honor of photographing a couple who got married here. This place is a historical gem, and it's a very beautiful area all around for taking photos whether it's for a baptism, a wedding, or a quinceañera.

Historic place. Definitely visit if you are in area. There are plenty of street parking. Weekdays are pretty empty but get busy in weekends. Nice garden outside. Great gift shop. Clean restrooms. Church is serene and beautiful. They have maintained the old building really well. Entrance free but they accept donations.

Mission San Juan Bautista is beautiful. It is big and full of history. I visited on a Saturday and it was hosting a wedding. The museum is big. It has a gift shop and bathrooms. I recommend 100% it is free but donations are recommended. Also, commercial photography is not allow it, so I recommend you to inquire. I parked outside the mission, and even though there was a wedding taking place, there were still a lot of parking spaces. I hope you enjoy the Mission if you visit.

Cute town and lovely mission made a perfect stop to stretch our legs on a long drive. No admission, allow about 20-30 mins to wander through the museum, chapel and gardens. Worth a stop and look about the historic town.

Mission San Juan Bautista historical site is a worthy day trip. It is $3 for adults 18 years old and up. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday. They host school groups by reservation. Every 1st Saturday, there is a live reenactment. I am not sure of the time that occurs. We enjoyed learning the history of the historical site. It covers information about the Donner Party, remnants of the Mexican War in California and the Mexican-American War, and various aspects of the families that lived in the area and how people lived in the first half of the 1800s. The Mission San Juan Bautista church was beautiful. We also walked the downtown area where there were a few antique shops and places to eat. Very cute! I found out on YouTube the Donner graves are in the cemetery in SJB. We saw the cemetery as we were leaving SJB but did not stop because we didn’t know the gravesites were located there. This place is a gem!

Wasn't able to go inside to thr museum since there was an event that used up most of the space outside, but I enjoyed hearing the mariachi and I found the grounds peaceful and soothing on the other side of the building

The mission of San Juan Bautista is very old and very beautiful. It has a lot of history, it has a museum, a store to buy Bibles, rosaries, and many more things. It has very beautiful gardens. And they also continue to give masses outdoors. You can also see inside the old church, there is also a cemetery. You have to come and see the San Juan Bautista Mission, you will love it and you will have an incredible day. There are restaurants near the mission.

A stunning and remarkably well preserved mission. I didn’t know this before I visited, but it’s actually still an active church, with regularly held masses in both Spanish and English. This can lead to some awkward moments, as I’m pretty sure I walked in on someone’s wedding when I visited. The workers in the gift shop were super nice. This is definitely a place worth checking out and the surrounding town is beautiful. (Yes, I did do San Juan Bautista for my fourth grade mission project.)

My daughter enjoyed a visit here after learning about the California missions in school. Easy to find and inexpensive. Rich in history. Adjacent to another state historical San Juan Bautista landmarks.

This was one of the 21 churches established during late 1700s in the California region. The mission is a beautiful remnant of that period showcasing the Church, the garden, museum and a gift shop. We even witnessed a marriage and a mariachi band. It is quite peaceful and has a wide-open area. Besides the mission is the the San-Juan-Bautista state park.

What a beautiful and big Mission Church. It located in a small business district in downtown area. It was the first time I saw the Mission with two extended wings. The museum has a lot of historic tools and valuable antiques at this place. It was the most experienced for my family to be at this mission. This place was really bigger compared to the others we have been in.

Beautiful day to visit, lots of tour busses. Flowers are blooming, fields are green. ? Added some videos. Been here a number times, great history, nice garden and gift store, and popular venue for weddings (seen at least three during different visits). Brought the children here when they needed to work on a mission project for their school. Maybe spend up to an hour or so browsing around.

A really nice place to visit and historic. We were in town for a flea market and decided to take a walk. We were fortunate to be visit in side the catholic church and garden. Big bonus being able to visit a property and home that was donated by a family and look in there home of what life was like. Beautiful weather and beautiful time. Hope to come back.

Places like these are great for a quick pitstop theres a lovely garden and many photo ops. Definitely more popular in the summer when everything is in bloom but still great in the winter. The main street is walking distance so you can easily make a day out of it wondering the shops and grabbing a bite.

It’s wonderful just how integrated this beautiful mission is, particularly in terms of location and setting, into the life of the surrounding town. Visually stunning complex of buildings to see, with historical and religious significance. There’s also a really cool part towards the fields where you can in fact see the original El Camino Real.

An absolutely fabulous mission. Located in this little awesome town of its name. Church, grounds, museum. The town still holds the charm of the old world. Definitely a visit. However bring water. They appear to experience water shortages. A lot of the bigger missions have a sun dial. It feels like the larger the city the more a mission is swallowed up. The smaller communities and isolated areas all seem to allow the missions to maintain large space. Gardens are well tended and nice museum.

Part of a field trip and realized this can easily be a nice day trip with family too. They had a very informative tour for field trip group talking about the history of the mission. The garden is beautiful, and the gift shop had lots of unique items including religious items. Loved the feel of this place.

Beautiful old mission, honestly one of my favorite places I've ever visited! I had never visited a mission before, and now I want to see all of them. The Spanish mass was going on when I came here, and I don't speak Spanish, but I still sat in on it for a few minutes, it was beautiful. There's a museum here as well that I highly recommend. The garden and the buildings are incredible. Hard to believe this was founded back in 1797!
