Google maps sent me on a wild goose chase around the next door mattress location. Drive down to the end of the road then turn left. You will see the scales in front of you. The staff is excellent. The service and prices are also excellent. The only issue is Google maps.
I had big heavy metal items that my local transfer station would not accept. They recommended I go to Schnitzer's / Radius. When I looked it up and read the reviews it seemed a little intimidating, but I didn't have a choice. When I first got there I spoke to a woman at the window at the scales, she was incredibly friendly and super helpful. Then after I got weighed I drove down to where the yard coordinator was, he was also incredibly friendly and super helpful. Then because the weight of the item, they used the claw to unload them. The guy that operates the claw does magic and carefully plucked the items out, and was super patient as I got back into the right spot. The whole experience was absolutely positive. Thank you.
Despite the mixed reviews, I decided to give this yard a shot, it was the closest yard to my little town of Plymouth. First time there, wow, EVERYONE was super helpful and respectful, nothing like the recent reviews warned. I usually don't write reviews, but this place was drastically different to what other people described. I dropped off steel scrap, a few pounds of aluminum and ~100lbs of brass/copper. The scale for the precious metals was a little more precise than the steel, but that's to be expected. If you're looking for 1lb error of margin I don't know where you would go because ALL businesses that pay by bulk weight are not exact to what you weigh yourself. Until there's a govt division dedicated to fining businesses who's scales are always off to screw the consumer, this is the norm.

Among the staff, Isom and Luis stood out for their exceptional attentiveness, friendly demeanor and helpful attitude!
They are very organized, these guys are hustling all day long, carrying ridiculous amounts of weight and getting filthy in the process. Give them gratitude because they deserve it!

Whats up with all the recycling places not taking aluminum cans? I've now been to 3 and each one doesn't take them anymore. I'll just trow em in the trash on my way home. All these places are lame anyways
1st time review, but decades-long coming to Schnitzer Steel to recycle CRV (Radius Recycling takes aluminum, plastic, & glass).
++ Consistently very competent/efficient getting client in & out.
++ That said, the recyclery is located on the grounds and to the very back of a massive, industrial recycler (south of Folsom Blvd behind a massive, single standing furniture store. So, be prepared to maneuver around VERY large equipment and loud crash/bangs.
++ Technically, it's handicap navigatable, but be prepared to keep head on a swivel, move fast, and walk.
++ NOT child friendly (a LOT of big, fast moving equipment and jarring industrial recycle-moving jarring noises.
++ Once turn in CRV, collect UPC printout receipt from CRV worker, then proceed back to property entrance building where scan the code at a self-dispensing ATM machine on the west side of the office.
They gave me $73 a ton for light iron on 4-1-24 and never said April fools also a -$7.54 facility fee so there you go. I also asked if I could call and get prices they said "we don't give prices " so there's that. It's the scrap business!
I mean… it’s a recycle place. You will get dirty and have to do a lot of work yourselves as it is a self service site. The workers are friendly and helpful. I haven’t had any of them give me short or gruff answers and they make sure to let you know they will be with you in a couple of minutes. They take the time to explain if you are new and have not been to their facility and not treat you like you’re wasting their time. Stop in if you are cleaning out your garage and bring in your steal, copper, and CRV. Check their website for what they except. Enjoy.
Company doesn’t pay you full amount of what’s owed after dropping off metal $$$$.
The atm shorted me and another customer of our change. It wasn’t much but it’s the principal of the matter.
Laura and Sharon have been some of the best people to have delt with in this industry. They are very professional and friendly, would highly recommend this place
I have to give schnitzer steel 5 stars. They give the best prices. We recycle metals from the electrical jobs and retro fits that we do. Gusar Electric, we do electrical from the pole to the desk and everything in between. Look us up. Our guys at schnitzer take care of us big time and the weight master is a real good dude. Trust me you will feel satisfied after dealing with these guys.
I take all my plastic recycles here. The people are friendly and helpful. I've never had any issues with anyone here, whether it's a customer or an employee.
Not friendly to people coming here for a first time, more contractor oriented. Front desk lady was great but yard workers seem underpaid so they half-a$$.
My 500lbs of steel (suspension components, car doors, exhaust) and cast iron (brake rotors) only brought in $16. How?!

It was absolutely awesome to deal with this company. Their buyer Laura was excellent and took care of our needs in a timely and professional manner. The driver that came was courteous and friendly. Their pricing was exceptional. I can definitely recommend doing business with them and I will certainly do so in the future.
Field and office personnel were great but you guys might want to think about putting the sign more out front for vehicles with out trailers to keep right so that they dont stand in line with all of the trucks that have to go over the Scales
This the best place to sell your scrap metal and recyclables. These people know the business and give you the best price. I've been coming here for years and I won't go anywhere else.Schnitzer is # 1 there is no one better!
I would have given it five stars but for first time visitors, the instructions were not adequate. When bringing scrap metal, you do not need to cover your loads if you are a private party. Follow these few steps for an easy transaction..
1. Drive up on entry scale, stop, go to window and get your weight ticket.
2. Drive off the entry scale then proceed to stage at stop sign ahead, workers will check your load and tell you when to proceed and where to go.
3. Dump your scrap metal where appropriate and return to exit scale, park, bring weight ticket to window.
4. Get paid. Drive away from exit scale, Park, got to ATM on the side of the office building. Enter your code into the ATM and get cash. If the ATM is down you will be handed a check for the amount at the check out window. That's it.
This was my first visit. The yard was a little tricky to navigate, but the employees were friendly and helpful. The employees worked really hard to get everyone in and out as quickly as possible. I'll use them in the future.
I couldn't be happier with my experience here. the quote I got for my brass was $0.25 at another place $0.60 at another and this one was just over $1.00 so the prices were much much better. Customer service was great from the guys in the yard to the cashier at the end. I was quickly in and out, I highly recommend this place, just a good experience from start to finish.
Every single time I've gone to Schnitzer Steel I've had nothing but an amazing experience everyone is so helpful friendly and the prices are fair I recommend using Schnitzer Steel for your recycling.
July1 they won't pay anything for steel loads under 500 pounds, and you can't get cash same day anymore. There's no real guide to what prices you are paid for your metals, they basically make up prices on the spot. Still better than paying to dump it at the landfill though..
Great service. One of the guys running the heavy equipment saw me struggling to get a heavy ramp out of my truck and came down to help me out. That's just good customer service.
Best place to be a hauler says my brother Mark before his passing. Happy and friendly staff treat you better than family. Honest, fair, and break their necks to take good care of you. Bless Mark and his happy memories working for Schnitzer Steel.
