Note: If you have less than 50 items whether it be cans or bottles, let the staff know that you want a count rather than weight. I brought in 19 aluminum cans and when they weighed it, they only gave me 66 cents. If I did the count I would have received 95 cents. Huge difference. It shouldnt be that much of a difference. Employee told me he couldnt do anything since I didnt let him know ahead of time and he already printed my receipt. My argument is for all the places I recycled at, the weighing and the count were pretty close in value. This is a huge difference. But learn from my mistake and always tell them you want a count amount since it pays what you paid for at the store. 5 cents a can.

Really bad experience, the employee receiving the recycle was rude, and after 3 containers of plastic he gave us just one dollar, I never got back there, I had a terrible experience. Bad customer service.

I’ve been going here for years and the last 2 times, I’ve been met with rudeness and hostility. Staff kindness is gone. I’ll be finding another recycling center.

I would like to thank, Daniel, the hard working guy! and Lupe inside, the payment department. I have been coming here for ALL my recycling needs. They are very hard working and you will get good rates. I am a happy returning customer. Ask them for help to assist you on larger recycling jobs and they will be happy to help. Much respect to the staff and employees at Slater Recycling!! You have big jobs, look them up. No weight limit, no waiting for 3 days to get a check, more than just bottles, cans and plastic. You will not be disappointed. I will miss Daniel, seems he's moved on to a better place, job wise

These people are fast, friendly, and efficient! They are ALWAYS nice to me and I look forward to going there. The place runs like clockwork. If I wasnt retired, I would try to hire them myself. I really have no idea what they are being paid, but I bet they could probably use a raise! It's not easy to retain good help. On the other hand, good bosses are hard to find too. Just sayin'... EVERYBODY KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. It's not easy these days! To quote the late great Tupac, KEEP YOUR CHIN UP (Gerald's wife) Laurel C

We were the only customers this morning, we waited a long time for the person (young man) to come out and weigh our recycling only for him to be aggressively rude. The lady at window to collect our money made us wait again until after she was done stuffing her face. I hardly ever give negative reviews !

Alwaya have issues here. Today I had quite a bit to recycle. Dirty, hot and crowded just wanted to be in my way I didn't check my totals until I was down the road when I noticed they didn't receipt my three full containers of cans. Returning they tried telling me one of the receipted items for plastic was the cans and handed me a couple dollars. I'm calling bullshit I had 16 containers full but after the fact it's impossible to fight it but it's time to find a more reputable place.

Update: This location has modernized over the years and is a great place for recycling. I appreciate the owner's response and to my initial review and clarification on the operational process which prompted this update. We look forward to our continued patronage!
Original: After coming to this location for many years, and appreciative of the modernization (concrete grounds, etc.), I have grown rather frustrated over the lack of visibility of the scale. During my last visit, I went behind the associate to actually see the readout and was "instructed" (and not very nicely so...) to go to the other side. It is rather difficult to read the small display where customers are asked to sign let along it does not show the actual weight, only what the associate entered. To be clear, I am not accusing them of playing with the numbers, I just would like the opportunity to verify without the staff being rude.
I will update my rating after the owner responds to this review.Aug 21, 2025 -
This place it's convenient for me it's near my house and the employees are helpful and they parking lot is big enough. I think it that they close to early but not they close at 11:45 for they lunch but they reopen at 12:30 and close at 4:00 pm during the week.. weekend they close at 2:00 and they close for lunch at same time. And I'm like this place..

I am seeing many comments about the person weighing the Recycling items and this person gives you the impression that he is Ripping you off. Every Recycling yard allows you to view your weights except for him. When I tried to view my Wieghts he threw a Tempur Tantrum and told me that i couldn't view them. Huntington beach Recycling needs to allow all of its Customers to view their Wieghts just like all of the other Recycling yards. No Excuses.

Excellent customer service! Staff is friendly, efficient & always willing to help. Parking is limited but they move people quickly thru the process & they have the best prices for ALL types of recycling. No clothes or paper recycling. Bilingual speaking staff really makes the process move quickly. I won't go anywhere else but here, why would you? They are the BEST in the area! Thanks for always providing a great experience for ALL who come there!

I always come to Slater recycling. They are friendly and get the job done for you. I come in my big black suburban and can sort my items freely. I think they pay a little more than most. I give them 10 stars because they are so nice.

I will be coming in tomorrow with a small amount of copper. I will give 5 stars until my experience tomorrow says I should do differently. I just have a few questions. What do you currently pay for the different types of copper? What time does your gate open for business? Will I be paid out on my copper same day? No matter how much it adds up to? Please lmk ASAP, as I want to find a new recycler to bring all my copper to near home! And do you accept the copper filters in my pictures?

place looks nice and neat, customer service is horrible, people in there they have no notion of having a business, I tried talking to gentle man in there, I asked couple of questions to the person weighting the aluminum, I had a few pieces that were metal I told him I was going to separate the metal from aluminum, and he just noted his shoulders like he didn't care. I left everything the way they wanted and left. I won't come back to this place.

I went to recycle bottles. The facility is cramped. However, I am giving it 5 stars for the people who work there. They are friendly & efficient. I appreciated their help!

Never too crazy busy and always easy. Parking can be tough sometimes since it's limited. The main guy running the scale is always friendly. I prefer to go here

Finally, a recycling center close to home that doesn't require you to remove the caps from all recyclables! It's under new ownership and they pay cash now! I extremely like this place because their staff is courteous, friendly, and hard-working. They also pay big on all your recycles, I made $66.38. Woo-hoo! It does pay off to save and recycle . I no longer have to travel so far to recycle and can now take all my recycles here moving forward. Thank you HB Recycling for a great experience!

Hours of operation and prices paid MUCH lower than what I'm used to. The prices paid out is kinda understandable. But the operation hours are unaceptavble. Kind of normal for a person to think that you would be open 9 to 5 like every other recycling center. But then when they get there and you're not and they sit there an hour or more waiting for you to open back up The sit there and explain to 4 or 5 other people That pull up in their cars That you guys are closed for lunch. It's just not normal for a company to shut down for lunch. Other than People that have already gone through the situation of finding out that it's not open for lunch no one expects that. I understand you're a smaller operation but these are things that should have been considered before getting into the business. Employees are fine if not great. Also there should be a set of rules posted on how material is expected to be separated. Example, into what categories ( Like clean aluminum number, one dirty aluminum number 1, dirty aluminum number 2, painted aluminum number 2,painted aluminum number 1 so on and so forth) To think somebody that doesn't do this on a regular basis to know these things is absurd. Fortunately I know these things but what's absurd is the fact that every recycling center wants you to do it different which I still don't understand if it all goes to the same place why does every recycling center want you to categorize and separate everything in a different manner to collect top dollar because every recycling center does it different (which makes no sense whatsoever). Fortunately I haven't years of experience of recycling scrap metal and I've been to almost every recycling center in Orange County but the fact that every recycling center want you to do it differently even though it all goes to the same place still makes no sense to me and takes the years of experience and throws it in the toilet when you go to a new center all of a sudden and have to learn a different way all over again.Nothing personal and you asked. And as of now I have no intention on making YouTube review. I also believe that a lot of the people that had given you good reviews have not had to go through this and if they did they wouldn't have given such great reviews.

They dont give you much for your collectables, although why does? I brought 6 trash bags of recyclables and got $11 for it. I wasnt in it for the money, but it would been nice to get a bit more. Some places make you take the caps off your bottles which is annoying and time consuming, but they dont make you do that here. This place has better hours than any recycling plant I've come across thus far which is definitely a plus.

This place gets the job done for your recycling needs! The line can get long at times and getting in and out can be tricky, but this place has a great friendly staff.
They will cut you a check there, on the spot.
Just bring you ID and cash out your water bottles and beer cans.Mar 09, 2019 -
I have never had any problems getting in and out. I do make sure I have no bottle caps on plastic and my items are sorted before hand. The guys working are also efficient and do not spent as lot time taking to everyone, which makes the line go quick!

I have been coming here for at least 20 years. My kids were on swim teams and we collected A LOT of cans snd bottles. The guys have always been very nice to me. Just follow the rules.

I’ve been taking my CA CRV aluminum, glass and plastic containers to this place for more than 10 years. If you know what to expect (how they run their operations), then you won’t be disappointed. Their prices are fair; I’ve never found anywhere that pays more, although I haven’t checked in the last couple of years. Also, they are not big on customer service. On the occasion I’ve had a question, I get little more than a grunt in reply. Still, I don’t go here to feel good. I go to get money for my recyclables, which as I’ve already said is a fair amount. So I’m happy with them. When you go:
1. Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty because they will!
2. Take something to clean your hands afterwards.
3. If you care about your car’s interior, take something to clean your shoes afterwards.
4. If you care about your car’s exterior, you might need to wash it after your trip. The uneven ground here is dirt (dust or mud) and rocks.
5. Leave your Little’s at home. They will surely get hurt at this place.Jan 19, 2018 -
I have been taking alum cans and plastic bottles for years. It is a little dusty when its hot and muddy when its wet but if you're ready to unload, its a quick and easy process. Some folks are unaware that items should be sorted out in advance and actually take way too much time for sorting which can slow the pace down considerably. There is only room for four or five unloads at a time. And I don't mind the check. They don't bounce.

Prices for plastic and aluminum seem fair enough but their hours, facility and parking are pretty terrible. Wear shoes you don't care about, as you'll be walking/standing in mud, spilled soda and beer.

The lazy employees close the gates early even though the website and the sign on the gate says they are open until 4. I arrived with my SUV completely full of cans and bottles at 4:45 today after again checking the hours on the internet only to find they had locked the gate early. I would recommend going somewhere else.
