What clients say about Sims Metal in East Richmond Heights (CA)
3 stars because I didn't really get to use the services of this facility. I checked their website to see if they accept bulk loads of aluminum cans, and their website said they did. So I drive out there, and they said they no longer accept cans. The cashier recommended a nearby place, and that was also misinformation because they also don't accept cans. Why don't y'all accept a car-load of clean, crushed, aluminum cans?
They ought to really update their website, that's my main gripe. This place seems pretty big and scaled for industrial level scrapping, and maybe it's great for that if that's you - but for the average can collector this place ain't it. I'll give you an extra star or two when y'all update your website, outdated websites are super annoying in this year of our Lord 2025, there's really no excuse for it anymore, just use ChatGPT!
I have been here 3 times in last 2 months.
Isabel was the scale attendee of each of my visits and she was very professional and kind. Isabel would have calls going on her office phone while making calls to colleagues on her personal cellphone, while balancing the traffic flow, and getting the contracts setup for the load I was picking up.
She was very kind and professional to everyone else she dealt with too. Keeping the flow going for 4 traffic lanes in and out of the facility.
This place is very high volume and takes safety very seriously. Going in initially inwas kind of lost on the procedures. They are so measured in their rules that I have to be standing on a weighted sensor that gives the loader a signal that I am a safe distance from him with spotters in between us in constant radio contact. I know people that have lost life and limb (former boss lost life, neighbor lost leg) from being out of sight of loader and getting crushed while loading.
Another thing is they keep this place clean and well maintained. Tire punctures are notoriously bad going into these types of places. They are doing their part to keep it clean.

I love going to this place. It would be sweeter if the scrap metal prices would go up to make it better for those customers who make their living this way.
This place Will shut down for lunch, everyone. instead of splitting the people up in 2 lunches so the company can keep running. They will make you wait till lunch is over to get back at you. there lucky to get a star.
