Buyer Beware!
Bought a Subaru Legacy L ‘99 in October 2013. Within 20 mins of driving it out of the lot I had a Check Engine light. Had to pay ~$600 to fix.
Used car I thought.
I come back in 2018 to buy my 2nd lemon from Chris.
On that same day, on of his workers quit on the spot. I remember her from 2013. He mumbled something along the lines of “I don’t think she’ll be coming back”
Should had taken that as a sign!
Anyway I choose a 2002 VW Golf TDI. Get it for $3300. Also, gave the car he gave me back. He complaints he can’t sell it for scrap.
Drive the Golf out. Within 20 mins I get a Check Engine light. I have to get the transmission replaced. $1300 cost. Ended up spending $4800 over ~ 4.5 years of ownership.
Called Chris and chewed him out. He didn’t find it nice.
I didn’t find him nice either.
Stay away. Get a decent car from a decent human.

I spent a long time in the automotive industry, and I can tell when a salesperson is being genuine. Chris is solid as it comes. Easy communication, quick process, and an honestly represented car. Buying a car in the price range he sells is always going to be a gamble, but he did everything he could to walk me through the flaws and issues on the car. It was priced well against the market and he even helped me get the car home. Couldn't be happier.
This review is long overdue. I bought a 2006 Subaru Forester back in July of 2019. It was a salvage title with over 150k miles, and all this made me a little nervous, but I'm happy to say it still is running great. This is a car that got me through a major life change and has taken me on many trips to and from Eureka -- and one trip to Seattle and back. Whenever I had any kind of question or issue, I texted Chris, and he was always super prompt and helpful in his response.
Honestly, I am so happy that a business like this exists. I bought a car for about 4k that has been reliable for over 4 years. Sure it has needed some work, but compared to someone who buys a car on credit, has a monthly bill, and the added fear of having that car broken into (I live in Oakland), I have been able to put that money to work in investments.

Chris is an absolute pleasure to work with. Chris is by far the most trustworthy car salesperson I have ever known. I bought a '99 Legacy from him years ago and my son is driving it now. When I bought it he mentioned the transmission sounded like it might develop problems and if it did to let him know. When the transmission started to go out I told him and true to his word he had it replaced and all I paid for was a couple hours of labor. When the rear main seal went out in the car a 100k miles later, he recommended a mechanic and said to tell him he sold me the car. I did and he gave me a substantial discount. We've been driving this car for years and every step along the way Chris has been pointing us in the right direction. I was so disappointed a few years ago when I learned Fremont Auto World had closed. Hearing it is up and running again is awesome. My son remembers Chris from when we bought the car and anytime we had issues as the car aged he would ask if I needed to call him. He's looking to replace dad's old beater soon and I'm excited to tell him we can get his new car from Chris.

Bought my Subaru two years ago and it showed a number of issues the first couple weeks after purchase. The repairs that meeded to be done added up to an extra $2k, and Chris offered to have his team take care of it but had already been swindled by that point. Avoid these scammers unless you'd like a fleeting moment of joy followed by a world of problems.
A true rarity in the world of used cars. Possibly the only place of its kind. Chris is focused on providing truly cheap, well used, but functional cars to people who may not be able to get a car otherwise. He clearly wants to help each and every customer, even those like me who called asking for help fixing an old Subaru. If you are short on cash but still need a reliable way to get around, this is a much better option than taking a chance on someone else’s headaches on Craigslist.
I have bought a couple of cars from Chris. One an Audi TT and the other a Volvo XC90. Chris and his team really made the process easy and both cars have been great. Any time I have had questions, Chris respond quickly and resolves the issue. It's not always related to the mechanics, recently he helped me figure out how to get new tags from DMV after I lost the renewal envelope. After getting scammed by a guy off Craigslist and buying a terrible car, I went to Auto World to trade it in and get a better one. They were great, real helpful, got me a good deal, and I ended up with a '95 Subaru Impreza with ~200,000 miles on it. Auto World gives you the option of returning the car within two days, and I used the opportunity to take it to my family mechanic-- he looked at the Subaru and told me it was in awesome shape, just like Chris said it was. Immediately after that I drove 900 miles down to Arizona and it worked great!
Overall really happy with Auto World; they're extremely helpful and tell you exactly what you're getting in any car you buy from them. Good people, and I got a great car from them!
I couldn't be happier with my purchase from Auto World Fremont. The sales team is friendly and personable. The buying process was relaxed and pressure free. Chris even cut us a deal on the price. The service plan is more than we expected or even could have hoped for. They have went out of their way to make sure we are happy post purchase. Now, as far as the quality of the vehicle we purchased, we got our '06 legacy about 2 months ago and are more than satisfied with the car. The car performs almost like new eventhough it is 12 years old and has over 160,000 miles. If I'm anywhere near the Bay Area when it's time to purchase another vehicle, I will buy it from Auto World fremont.
So for anyone looking to purchase a car yes they will work on down payment but the "2-year service plan" is a scam they end up telling you when signing the paperwork it's really only 5 "free" oil changes that really cost you $25 a piece once you drop the car off. I feel that this should be told to the customer instead of having them believe there is a 2 year sevice plan because that is not the case. It literally just gives you a discount on 5 oil changes. And make sure they give you a coupon card because without it you don't even get the discount. And the warranty is 50/50 on transmission and engine only so the 3 year warranty and 2 year service plan I thought I was getting , well seems like I didn't get much of anything. Disappointed.
Chris is the real deal. As others have said he is upfront, honest and overall a super nice person. I found the exact vehicle I was looking for (oldest car on the lot), flew up on a Friday morning and drove it back down to San Diego the same day. It ran like a champ, pulled strong (even up the Grapevine) and never gave us any reason to worry.
Chris was reassuring that it would make the drive down to SD and he was right. I will keep him on the top of my list when it comes time to purchase another Subaru.

Chris is the most honest used car salesman in the bay area.
His cars are superbly inspected and repaired prior to selling. I got an 02' Forester a few years back and its never given me any issues. Starts every time! I change the oil regularly and thats all i need to worry about.

Chris at Auto World Fremont is the man. He is super responsive with emails and texts. He is also a straight up guy and willing to go above and beyond for excellent customer satisfaction.
The level of service and the vehicle quality cannot be matched or beat. They truly know these cars inside and out and they keep a pretty detailed list of all the work that was performed to make them truly roadworthy. Chris also has an extensive network of skilled mechanics etc. to assist with regular maintenance at the best price possible.
Bottom line, you can't go wrong. I highly recommend doing business with Chris and his team!

I was a novice to the brand but I am knowledgeable about cars and the car business. He was excellent and a true professional. He is what I refer to as a brand advocate. Went here recently and got a sweet Subaru Legacy. Chris really knows his stuff, is completely honest and he doesn’t give you pressure to buy.
He showed me several options that fit my needs, was upfront about all the cars’ history and features and the pros and cons of each.
I was in a hurry to get to work and he was very understanding. He worked with my busy schedule to accommodate me. His hours are very extensive and his staff is excellent. He works hard to make sure the car is right for you and I can’t reiterate enough that I felt no pressure to buy, but did anyway because of his honesty, and the value of the cars he sells. I ended up with a gorgeous legacy that makes me feel safe and is still fun to drive, and very practical. Again, I felt no pressure to buy the more expensive or more equipped vehicles. Chris was happy to get me into a car that I like and wasn’t pushy to make an extra buck. He went out of his way to get me floor mats and a cargo mat, and the car was immaculately detailed when I picked it up.
Props to Chris and all his helpful and hilarious staff. I’ve never had such a good feeling about buying a car before and I would highly recommend auto world to anybody who wants a relaxed, honest and stress free used car buying experience.

I bought a 1995 Subaru Legacy from Chris about a week ago after lots of research and looking around on craigslist. I drove 3 hours to Fremont and immediatly got a discount for coming out of my way. He also threw in an extra set of steel rims so i could use snow tires while keeping my all season tires handy. Everyone was helpful and patient while i slowly examined each car and pondered. I will tell my friends about Autoworld and definetly will return for my next inexpensive Subaru. An enjoyable experience and i never had to step foot in a DMV!
Great deals on refurbished Subarus and on service and parts. I bought 2 of my cars there and in both cases Chris was super honest. When I bought my second car he even bought back the first one for a very good price. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a used 4wd car.
