What clients say about Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge in Arivaca Junction (AZ)

Right now, the Mexican sunflowers have made this trail a vibrant yellow and orange. And while the season has moved to early fall, it’s Arizona, so mid day walks are hot! I am new to birding, so all I can write is that they are present. But what they are, I have no idea. I do love the big ones though. Even though the trail off the parking lot leads to a small loop, still bring plenty of water. The trail has a lot of shade, but bring water. And, there is an excellent Pokemon gym and Pokestop.

If you're seeking information on wildlife in Southern Arizona, this is the ideal place to visit. You will leave feeling happy and more knowledgeable.

Beautiful area and easy walking trail but it’s sad to see no water anywhere. We visited in early February so the cienega was pretty dry and lifeless. Would be great to visit in summer when the place is green and full of birds. A good portion of the trail is paved and accessable.

Love this refuge but the birding is bad this year because of the draught...

Nice, easy walking trails. Elevated boardwalks over the potentially wet spots. In the right season, should be a Mecca for bird watchers.

We stopped here for a little hike in the middle of a motorcycle trip. It was dry, but Arizona been dry this summer also. It was a little warm in early October mid day. I would recommend early visits on hot days.

Very beautiful and scenic place! The hike is nice and pretty short, it is a loop so you don't have to circle back. The trail is flat and easy for anyone to walk. Our dogs enjoyed the park as well!

Took a nice hike with several others through this refuge on Feb 27, 2019. The trail is relatively level with a few boardwalks. We saw a nice variety of birds, and a herd of deer.

I enjoyed a great experience at this refuge! The staff at the visitor center was extremely friendly and helpful, and showed me around the grounds of the historic building! The birding around the center was great! I especially enjoyed watching a Vermilion Flycatcher catching bugs just a few feet in front of my face. The drives and various trails were wonderful and devoid of people. However, there were lots of Border Patrol agents roaming about the Pronghorn Loop Drive on ATVs, but they were exceptionally courteous. My favorite experience was coming across a Mountain Lion with a dead rabbit in its mouth at Arivaca Cienega! Very exciting! I also enjoyed visiting the little town of Arivaca, including the historic one-room schoolhouse and cemetery, and the local art gallery & gift shop. The chili at La Gitana Cantina & Cafe was delicious! Excellent experience all around!

Beautiful, open expanses. Feels very secluded even though less than 2 hours from Tucson.
