Had my 2013 Honda Accord, had a really bad shake when driving over 40 and above. I changed out the outer tie rodes and still didn't fix the problem. Took it to them and they found the problem quick. Got it fixed in 2 days! Turns out it was my driveshaft and intermediate shaft! Highly recommend!
Hard to find an honest mechanic these days but TAG Automotive is the ONLY place we take our vehicles. Honest, reliable and affordable. I know that if I need anything from an oil change to a brand new engine, these are the guys. I trust them 100%. They put in a new engine in our Subaru last year, fixed my van when ran over something and engine dropped. Just recently they replaced the brakes, axle and just a fantastic job. I feel safe knowing that they have done an excellent job. As long as we are in Flagstaff these are our guys. Thank you TAG AUTOMOTIVE !!!
this place is absolutely terrible. the first time i went here they were extremely rude, given the fact they fixed my car and it was running fine until it wasn’t. which made me question if they ever actually fixed the issue which the. costed me over 400 dollars. i decided to come back because on the receipt it stated i had warranty so i thought okay cool they will fix the issue. no i went back atleast 3 times everytime i went back they said my car did not have a issue at all which made me question if they even checked it knowing they weren’t going to get any money out of it. now i had to go back today because my engine light was flashing and my car was jerking. so i had dropped it off around 12 they never called once i had to call 3 times to see how things were going. i then decided to show up at the time they close just for them to now tell me my issue and that it was going to cost me 180. what happened to my warranty? i wish i could give this place 5 stars but i cant they are extremely rude, degrading and act like they hate their job.
Brought my car in with an apparent electrical issue (window wouldn't auto-roll, stereo/AUX not working as well as the mileage display and the buttons on my console). The guys diagnosed the problem and fixed it so easily they didn't charge me, not even a service fee. Will definitely be going back for future issues
10 Love TAG! And flagstaff towing. You know there are times things don’t always go as planned. But there are people and business’ that make an unplanned car situation sooooo much better. TAG did exactly that! The F150 needed repair. I called Tom at TAG. He suggested a tow service(I ask). They picked us up and delivered us to TAG promptly. TAG worked out whatever was wrong with the vehicle. It is older and may need future service. I wanted to have an ongoing trustworthy relationship with an auto repair business. I have that. I 100% recommend TAG.
Heard a weird noise from our brakes and luckily they were nearby, so we dropped in. The sound stopped on the way, but one of the guys came out, checked it for free, and said it was just some rust—nothing to worry about. Super helpful and reassuring.

These guys are amazing! Straight to the point , excellent work done on our Jeep Liberty. Super super HONEST people that are knowledgeable and fair. They don't trick you into doing extra and unnecesary work ( as many mechanics here in Flagstaff AZ), they are very HONEST, and they try to work with you as much as possible! Made an appointment with them, showed up at appointment time. Was told we will get to when we get to it. When they did get too did not explain it would be $155 for dx. Was called back and not told cost of service. Turned out to be an air cabin filter. Which other places I called said there is no dx just check it and cost to replace is about $50. This place charged $198 to replace an air cabin filter. Plus they were rude.
I was in flagstaff only for a few days. I needed an oil change and went to Valvoline. Valvoline gave me a list of maintenance items my car needed, which scared me because I needed to be able to drive down the mountain to Phoenix tomorrow.
I found TAG because of their great reviews. Even though they were busy and about to go to lunch, they very kindly inspected the items I was most concerned about, the serpentine belt and the brakes. They showed me both were in good shape. I offered to pay for the inspection, but they very kindly waived the fee.
I am in flagstaff often and will definitely use TAG for anything my car needs when I'm here. Very trustworthy and kind guys, and a business you can trust :) Thank you again!

My son goes to NAU. He drove his Dodge Neon down from the Portland, OR area about 5 years ago and it immediately broke down. The guys at TAG did a great job with the repair and were very fair. Now my son is going to grad school in Pittsburg in the fall and is going to drive his 2002 Honda CRV there. I had him take it to TAG and have them check it out. They, again, did a great job and were very fair. I highly recommend TAG for any of you car repair needs.
I had an oil change and drain plug replaced; nothing major. But I definitely want to give a positive review for a place when they treat you well. Service was quick and professional.
Update. Since my original review I have taken a few vehicles in for repair, diagnostics, and general peace of mind. These guys are solid. Their prices are fair, service and repairs are done reasonably fast, and their work is very good. Probably one of the best mechanic shops I have been to. Last time I dropped off a vehicle my wife asked why I go to TAG; my answer was because they have talked me out of repairs they didn’t think I needed. That builds trust.
I was so impressed with TAG automotive repair. My son and I arrived in Flagstaff yesterday and his car wouldn’t start anymore. We dropped it off early morning. Gene called us in less than 30min with a quote for a new battery. The repair was finished in one hour. We really appreciated the great service. Gene explained everything well and was very courteous. Highly recommend TAG!
TAG is the only shop we trust. Their work is outstanding, they're honest and straight forward. After another shop told us we had $6k worth of problems, TAG took the time to properly diagnose and fix that AND what the other shop missed. We were treated like family. I can't recommend them enough!
I live and work in the Grand Canyon National Park. The heater in my car stopped working! Brrrrr! The first shop I scheduled an appointment with, cancelled the day I took off work to get my car fixed. I called several shops in Flagstaff and Tag automotive was the only one who agreed to see my car. They were able to fix my water pump and get me back on the road with heat by the end of day! So grateful for their service!
Found these guys on Yelp with high rating, and had our 2003 Nissan Frontier towed there when it wouldn't start. They diagnosed the problem quickly as a clutch pedal switch bracket failure which would prevent ignition. Being as the truck is 20 years old that part is not available any longer so they took the initiative to rebuild the bracket and fabricate a fix. Really impressed with their initiative and responsiveness. Highly recommend!!!

These guys are awesome! I was passing through Flagstaff from Utah when I could hear a vacuum/air leak on my Nissan. I stopped in and within 5 minutes they had it diagnosed with a new part on the way. I wasn't over charged and they guys were so kind. I had a great experience with Tag.
A very professional place. I called on a recent afternoon and asked about pricing and availability for brakes and oil change. Gene asked a few pointed questions to see if rotors were needed - while he was working on a car. What nice guy to still be able to help on the phone and give a quote. Born and raised in Flagstaff but been gone for the last 20 years. Only shops and mechanics where I personally know someone do like Gene did. The next morning the car was done. Nice! As far as pricing goes, fantastic! I read the local reviews before I made any phone calls and after speaking with Gene I was confident that TAG would take care of the situation.
I cannot thank the mechanics at Tag enough. My husband and I were stuck in the snow in Munds Park and they were the only company out of the 15 our insurance called that was willing to help us. We were 90 minutes from home and desperate for help. Not only did they come out quickly but they four mechanics and discovered that there was a damaged vacuum tube that was preventing the 4 wheel drive from engaging. Had we simply been towed we wouldn’t have been able to drive ourselves home. Everyone was very professional. We had a great experience.
I was really impressed with TAG Automotive. I got a quote from University Auto for $2,900 to replace the radiator and heater core on my car. Concerned that the quote was too high, I called TAG Automotive for a second opinion. Gene from TAG Automotive was shocked when I told him the price I was quoted, and he told me I could bring my car over to him and that he'd look over it the next day. I dropped my car off to TAG and the next day Gene called me and quoted me $1,397 with tax for replacing my radiator and heater core. I told them to go ahead and do the work on my car, and they had it fixed and back to me within 4 business days. Thanks to TAG Automotive, I saved $1,500. As a young woman, my biggest fear when my car needs maintenance is being taken advantage of by dishonest mechanics. Take your business to TAG Automotive and you will get quality service from honest mechanics.
Tom and Gene and crew are the best. Don't look any further for rock solid service. I've taken our vehicles there for years. One of our favorite locally owned and operated small businesses.
Fall 2019, TAG replaced my brakes and wheel bearings. They also worked on my A/C electrical and coolant system.
Spring 2020, I brought my truck back to them to service it before I did some long-distance driving. After inspection, they told me my wheel bearings were shot and that I should replace the brakes as well, to be safe.
I reminded them that they had replaced both of those 6 months earlier. They were kind and told me they would warranty out the wheel bearings and replace them for free. Great news! They also replaced my shocks during this visit.
Ten days later, I’m driving across the country and keep hearing this grinding sound. When I bring the truck in to a mechanic in Michigan, they tell me the wheel bearings are toast.
I replace them with this shop in Michigan and they’ve been great ever since.
The whole situation makes me wonder whether the wheel bearings ever got replaced via warranty during my May visit. I don’t have any record of them being replaced, because as the representative at TAG told me, it wasn’t worth the paperwork and time. I felt at the time that I should have gotten something in writing, but I took their word for it.
They are the only mechanic I’ve used in Flagstaff, and some things they’ve worked on have been great, but the whole wheel bearing situation was a let down.
As I’m getting ready for another long drive, and would like some service on my truck, I would like to bring it here, but I’m worried.
Honest mechanics are few and far between- Gene and Tom are the exception! I'm always hesitant to visit a mechanic- there's so many bad ones out there, you never know what you're dealing with. I've been to TAG multiple times with 3 different vehicles. Gene and Tom have always been honest, straight forward, and good on their pricing. There's been more than one time where they could have lied and ripped me off, but they told they were truthful.
I had a front wheel bearing go out on my old car. I was ready to replace both front wheel bearings, but they talked me out of it- they talked me out of paying them more money! My truck quit running while on the road, and I had it towed to TAG. I was expecting potentially $600+ in repairs. They determined it was something with the ignition, which ran $150- again, they could have lied, and charged way more, but they were honest!
Stop by or call TAG before visiting anywhere else in town!
These guys are fantastic. I've trusted both of my cars to them over the past 3 and a half years, and referred many others cause it's tough to find trustworthy guys who get the job done right and back their work up. Never any problems they couldn't handle on my old civic, and always got fair prices, quality parts and free estimates. They will beat any other shop's prices and will give honest fair advice.
