👍🏼 Went on a cruise trip. The place is nice to spend the day. It offers areas for hiking, eating, resting, souvenir shopping, kayaking, museum and a free cable car (there is another one which is longer and higher but requires a fee) 🌲 the place has a lot of pines so the air feels very fresh. ♿️ accesible for wheelchairs and strollers. ☔️ don’t forget to bring your rain coat and wear comfortable shoes

I’m giving Icy Strait Point a three star review because of the gorgeous views and the beauty walking through the woods. It lost two stars because we are the last cruise ship visiting for the year and we still expected the major attractions to be open. If you’re accepting a cruise ship, then the gondola through the woods, the gondola up the mountain, and the zip line down the mountain should all be open. We were very disappointed that they’d already all been stored for the end of season.

Great little town, beautiful walks and many attractions/activities! The zipliner was an incredible experience - from the gondola ride up the mountain to the entertaining team sending you down the zipliner, it was clearly very well organised. Plenty of souvenir and food options. A great stop on my Alaskan adventure!

Not a lot to do here, wished we had booked the whale trip instead of free time, as limited things to do and pretty run down in the town. The cannery sheds were ok for a walk through.

A wonderful remote stop that can only be accessed by boat or plane. Icy Strait Point was a fish cannery, now closed, located on the alaskan coastline. Port a call to many cruise ships. It's a beautiful place to toddle around and visit the town. Go for a hike or take a gondola to the top of the mountain and zip line down at sixty five miles an hour.

Enjoyed the cannery, Mostly different tourist shops. But parts of the old cannery were still on display. The salmon processing machines I found to be the most interesting. Some photos of the old days.

This port/attraction is growing. The staff is great and the views on the mountain are amazing Lots of whales as we left

This is a privately owned tourist destination for the cruise ships. It is near the Tlingit Village of Hoonah. There is lots to do here like the world's largest zip line, whale watching, wildlife viewing and a tram to the top of the mountain but they are all very expensive. Our cruise ship got here 5:30 p.m. but we didn't walk down to the island until 7:00 p.m. due to a dinner on board. It was raining and cold but we walked to the free gondola ride that took us to the other side of the island. By the way, you can walk this too. We briefly went into the restored 1912 salmon cannery and walked around the shops but most of the shops were closing by this time.

A way for the cruise ship to sell you another day. It is just a souvenir (china made) store with a few interesting cannery machines thrown in. Really nothing much to see in the very small town. It is a very long walk to town with a crowded bus option. The scenery looks like the rest of that area. It was raining so the volcano wasn't visible. Too crowded with two cruise ships. Noisy zip line was very annoying. The scenery was average for the Pacific Northwest.

So not believe the naysayers! Icy Strait Point was one of our favorite stops. Whales, Bears, Eagles, and fewer people! Get some breakfast and lunch from Fisherman's Daughter then I highly recommend renting a UTV from Hoonah ATV tours and driving up through the mountains. Perfect day!

Absolutely loved this port on our Alaskan cruise, it was our favorite! You have to take a free gondola to get to the town (or use the nature trail for a 20 minute walk). When we got off the gondola we were greeted with a wood bonfire and seating area. We walked a little ways and there was a huge orca whale statue. The cannery was turned into cute shops and we had an amazing crab feast for lunch. The beach area was where we spent most of our time: shell hunting, skipping rocks and enjoying the view. Highly recommend! (We had small children with us but the world's longest Zipline looked really fun).

Great little stop on the cruise ship route. Some history, great views and a little souvenir shopping. If your going to town book the shuttle, as the walk is a little much and there is not a lot to see in town.

We stopped at Icy Strait Point on our Disney Cruise, and it was an absolute blast! We went on the world’s highest zipline and rode the cable car—both were thrilling and offered incredible views of the surrounding scenery. After our adventures, we enjoyed a delicious lunch before heading on our way. A perfect stop with unforgettable experiences!

Enjoyed our time here, nice and relaxing. Did the nature walk & walked into town (2.5miles one way approx). Saw whales along the way. There is 2 gondolas; green is free & goes to one area & red goes higher but there’s a charge.

5 Stars – A Must Visit Cruise Destination Icy Strait Point is an absolute highlight and well worth a full day if your cruise stops here. There’s so much more to do than you might expect. Right by the port, you’ll find plenty of souvenir shops and a handful of places to eat. Two cable car gondolas whisk you up the mountain, where you’ll discover even more shops, a scenic hiking trail with a picturesque lake at the summit, and the thrill of riding the tallest and second-longest ziplines in the world. Back at sea level, you can either catch a quick shuttle or take a pleasant 1.5-mile walk into the charming little town of Hoonah, home to about 900 residents. The combination of local culture, breathtaking scenery, and exciting activities makes this port of call stand out. If your cruise itinerary includes Icy Strait Point, rest assured, you’ll have no shortage of fun and memorable things to do.

We were aboard a Norwegian cruise ship. We took the whale watching excursion with the seafood feast. It was incredible. The only thing is book as late as you can so the fog burns off and you can see the whales. The food was incredible! Hit up the doughnut place in the port there and stock up. They stay fresh for days. Good shopping here and the zip line is worth the effort according to our friends. Beautiful port. I wish we had more time there.

Wonderful little stop as part of our Alaskan cruise. Lots of trinkets and souvenirs in the variety of shops. The gondola to the top provided some wonderful views, even on a misty day (which soon cleared). No bears sighted but plenty of other wildlife seen - deer and whales. The donut stand was a particular favourite - freshly made while you wait and a whole host of flavours. Beach was lovely to sit on. Water nice to paddle in and to just sit and whale watch from the shore.

We were there for a short time. We never made it to the town proper. I did the Zipline and Alaska's wildest kitchen. The Zipline was great, so fast, 60 miles per hour. The fog hindered our view for a short time, but still a lot of fun.

Stopped with a cruise ship. Some shops and restaurants close to the ship. Would recommend to walk instead of free cable car, the short walk through the forest is nice and chance to see bald eagles in the tree tops. We walked the 40min to Hoonah and its a beautiful walk along the shore. You can also take a shuttle service, 10 usd.

We booked a wilderness hike for this port stop on our 7 day trip. Will, our guide, and staff were very knowledgeable and made the experience one to remember.

I went here for a stop on a Royal Caribbean Cruise to Alaska recently, and it was fun! I went up two Gondolas (one free, one I paid in advance), went on a trail (which scared me because of the bears), and bought some stuff at the historic cannery.

We found out that Icy Straight Point is the only privately owned cruise ship terminal in USA. Its owned by the local tribes. If you want to know the story visit the fire pit at the end of the green gondolas and ask to hear Jacks story. Jack, a local, was awsome and told us the history. This stop is about sights and scenery and local culture not tourist trap shops.

I didn't know what to expect at Icy Strait Point, but it turned out to be a worthwhile stop on our cruise. The natural beauty of the area was stunning. We rode the Sky Rider tram up a mountainside, saw the cannery exhibit, and took an inexpensive shuttle into Hoonah. It was a great day.

One of my favorites on the Alaska cruise!!! My second time here and feel it is such a privilege to be able to experience the peaceful, sacred area especially since it still seems native and not so commercial or touristy. I didn't buy one excursion but just enjoy walking trails , enjoying nature, free gondola ride and extremely warm day. I came so close to swimming but I didn't bring a towel or change clothes.... Water appears cleaner than any Alaska port. People are so friendly and small shopping available was not too overpriced!!

We loved visiting this beautiful town of 700. The town is located high in the mountains. You need to take a cable car to reach it. You are surrounded by a forest that contains lots of Brown Bears, Bald Eagles and other wildlife. People are very friendly. Well worth a visit.

Surrounded by natural beauty—harbors, mountains, and abundant wildlife—this area offers scenic trails that lead from the harbor to downtown. The downtown itself is smaller than expected, with only a handful of shops and restaurants. But nature is the real star here. No need for a shuttle—enjoy the 1.5-mile scenic walk instead!

Nice walk to town. About 2 miles total from the cruise dock. There are plenty of restrooms throughout the walk. Weather was great during our visit, and we saw humpback whales from the shoreline. Eagles were also visible among the trees.

The icy strait was a first stop on the Alaskan tour. I wasn't sure what to expect. The pork was so close to the excursions, it wasn't the same exit or port in a very busy area like the Caribbean. It was very simple, and welcoming. Everything was right in front of you in a very small space. The views were heaven on Earth, I heavily urge you to do the gondola ride more than once. You go above and beyond the clouds to the highest point I've ever been outside of a plane. The pictures are phenomenal, you looking down on everything, as I hope the pictures show you. When I say gondola ride it's the red one not the green one. The green one is the free one that is lower and just takes you to the other side. The red one is the one that takes you up to the heavens. It's well worth at the $59 because you can do it as many times as you want all day. The green one is incredibly congested when you first get off the boat or get to the icy streets. So there's a path that has you walk around it, and very incredible exhibit of deep nature. There's also a sign on one of the trees as you're walking to look up. This is because there's a giant eagle nest high in the trees. The food, not so great options. But the whale watch was amazing as we saw over 20 humpback whales. The combination of everything that we did made it so fulfilling.

The Sky Peak gondola ride is an absolute must. Worth every penny, and it is supremely amazing. Prepurchased my ticket and didn't have any wait time at all. I assume that there might be times when there is a longer wait. All the shops and all the attractions around Icy Straight Point were just really fun and cozy. I was there in a torrential rain pour and still had a great day.

One of our stops on Alaskan cruise. Small town of Hoonah is within walking distance when you get there along path in forest. Ride the free cable car back to port. Stop highlight is the scenic cable car for $50pp. Way over-priced IMHO so we didn'tride it. Spotted whales in the bay here. Stay on walking trail due to "supposed" bear activity in the area.
