I am a disabled veteran and a pretty good backyard Mechanic, so to speak. I can change engines, transmissions, and do pretty much anything that needs to be done to a vehicle. Sometimes, however, I have a problem, diagnosing an issue, and will occasionally take it to the shop to have this done. I left My van there on Friday so that they could look at it on Monday. I had already changed my O2 sensors, plugs, wires, and a few other miscellaneous things. The next thing I was going to do was change my ignition coil. My wife had me take it into the shop before putting any more money into it. It needed a battery, ignition coil, and oil pressure switch. One of the main reasons I don’t go to mechanics because I know, that in this case, for example, I could’ve gotten the parts for under $300 and it wouldn’t have taken an hour to make the repairs. My wife insisted that I go ahead After the $135 diagnostic fee just to make sure that they Couldn’t tell me that I must’ve done something wrong if the diagnostics were not accurate. Anyway, after paying $752. 83, I picked my van up Monday afternoon. Tuesday evening, my check engine light came on. I called them and I was told that I would have to pay another diagnostic fee. If it turned out that this wasn’t from a defective part are there work that they performed. Again, I’m a disabled Veteran and also a small business owner. Just out of respect for my customers, I would’ve done better than that. I would’ve told the person to bring the vehicle back in and we’ll see what the problem is. Just like one of the other reviewers said, I was hit with all types of reasons why they charge so much. Their scanners cost $4000 and they have to pay for updates and the parts you get from Autozone are cheap and probably come from overseas somewhere, Etc. This is exactly why I’ve only gone to a mechanic twice in probably 15 years. I can’t find one that generally cares about their customers. Imagine that I told them on the phone that I am a Faith based business owner and they replied that they were as well. Disappointing!

They were very helpful with issues I had a with a vehicle. The evaluation and repair was correct and the price was reasonable. I went to Hatfield because they have a great reputation in the Homewood community and they certainly lived up to that reputation!

Great group of guys. Called around to several shops and they had best pricing. They got me in and out same day. highly recommend will use them again

Charged me nearly $1500 to do my radiator! Rip off!!! Retribution for everyone the have over charged. You know something is wrong when someone tries to justify or gives lame explanation for the charges when no one even ask you. I knew it was hog-wash long before! If they were the last auto shop on the planet, I wouldn't go there! Shameful!!!

I have used Hatfield for both of my cars since 2017, they are honest, punctual and do fantastic work for an amazing price! If you're looking around for a good mechanic, look no further!

DO NOT MAKE YOUR DAY WORSEN by going to this place!! A few months ago they charged me $1,200 for a coolant leakage fix, now there's a leak again. I took it to them to check where the problem is, the guy behind the desk was extremely rude - I can't believe it! Then, I had difficulty hearing him when he called me to tell me what the problem is, he yelled on me so wildly - no one would behave like that with a customer. When your day is already ruined by a failure in your car, so do not make it worsen by going to this place! I wish there was a -5 star rate, he deserves it!

Went here after getting a RIDICULOUS quote at Midas, and I was able to get the same work done for over HALF of what i would’ve paid. Everyone I’m the office is nice and informative. Definitely go here before you go anywhere else!!!!!

Heading to Florida & got halfway to Florida from Kentucky. My vehicle started misfiring on Thursday evening, woke up stupid early to get to a dealership that told me they couldn’t even look at my vehicle until Monday. I was going to risk it & try to make it to Florida. My vehicle almost stopped so I pulled over on the next exit & by the grace of God Hatfield was on this exit. They brought my vehicle right in & did the work I needed for it. These people pretty much saved our vacation! I can’t give them enough praise for how wonderful they were!

My car broke down on Oxmoor a sit and waited in a service station, the Shell service station on Oxmoor Road who ran me out of the parking lot, saying they were going to tow my car and call the police I Saul Hatfield across the road and called and they said, can you get it over here after waiting 2 1/2 hours on a wrecker I decided to go with Hatfield. I did get the car jumped and we made it across the street. My car was ready the next day new alternator and the service was wonderful and so were they.

Used Hatfield after a neighbor recommended them. Despite being very busy, our car was ready in less than a day. The price was incredibly reasonable.

Hatfield took on a huge project for us with my son's car. He was in Birmingham at school and being 500 miles away, we did not know what repair facilities were reputable and which were not. Trent's guys worked tirelessly on my sons car and had some delays due to availability of parts, but got the job complete. Even months later, Trent is still following up to ensure the car is correct. Best auto shop facility in Alabama!!!!

They replace my clutch in my car even after a trashy mechanic messed up the car. I will give this place six stars but Google will only let me do five. My car set up for a whole year and now I'm able to drive it again. Well I'm driving it now LOL thank you and I love this shop they fix my 2003 Ford Focus ZX3

After leaving I-65 due to a flat tire issue on the road I went to Hatfield Auto Parts & Services looking for a desperate help. Huge error. I explained to two big guys in the office my situation and they said they were busy and could not help me to change my flat tire... I was looking for help but also planning to pay for their service. I was so disappointed with their treatment. As a middle age women who is so bad with car services this shop surprised me with their lack of empathy. Thanks God my dear husband drove 30 miles to change my flat tire and it took him less than 10 minutes to do it. I really regretted stopping at their shop asking for help. Gob bless them and warm their cold hearts.

It had been +50 years since I was a teen driving and I never forgot the many times my father would have to get to the original shop in downtown Homewood. Fred Hatfield the owner would shake his head at what has Bruce destroyed now. A couple weeks ago I met Trent when I decided to get several issues resolved. Did they ever! Trent was on the money with everything he had quoted me. I plan on using them when auto needs arise. Thanks folks.

Used these guys twice before for tires and they reminded me of the shop I worked at with my family so I enjoyed using them until today. First off, When I walked in he questioned my knowledge of what i told him I needed and he sent a guy out to make sure the tire size was accurate, maybe because I am a woman, but that’s just speculation. Second, I had one damaged rim from a fiasco with a curb. When I left their place yesterday, I had four. I called and spoke with Trent Hatfield, the owner. I sent pictures and he claimed it looked like “road rash”, implying it was like that before or I somehow managed to scuff up three rims on my 10 minute drive home. He said they’d have to inspect it so I brought the car up there already knowing from our conversation on the phone how it was going to go. He got his tire tech, Perry, from the garage and before even approaching the vehicle fully “I can already tell you that was already there”. He preceded to look at them saying it was old and there before like I knew they would speaking to them on the phone. Long story short, do not go to the business unless you want some severely damaged rims and they do absolutely nothing about it, but blame you and tell you they don’t know what to tell you. ** editing to state I never once stated I was goi g to leave a bad review. I left a review after going back to the shop and was told they couldn’t do anything because it was like that before. Like I said before it was not! Does not handle business well.

I got three quotes for radiator replacement on my Ford. Hatfield had the best quote and I took the car there.The coolant leak turned out to be the coolant recovery tank. Very satisfied with the experience.

Great Guys and Great Service. We are from out of town and were staying at hotel in the area. The morning of our checkout our water hose went out. We googled nearby mechanics and discovered these guys. Very professional and quality work and to top it off they had car back to us before our hotel check out time. highly recommend these guys above all others

I’ve used these guys several times for repairs on my vehicles. They have been in every instance timely, polite, fair with their prices and have performed quality work each time. If you’re looking for trustworthy mechanic work performed in a timely manner then give Hatfield a shot. They are my go to in the Birmingham area.

Best place in town to have your car worked on. I brought my car in to have the A/C worked on and Hatfield fixed it right up for me for less than anyone else around. I highly recommend this place by far. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. This place is the real deal.

Our son attends college in Birmingham, and we live in Tennessee. He was having some major car trouble. Trent was great to work with and even offered an option to save some money with the repair work. It was very nice to work with someone that is professional and honest. 5 stars for sure!

Trent & Co. are top-notch mechanics. Their 30+ year experience truly shines through in their work. These guys have my 1990s-era pickup back on the road with hopefully much life left in her. When the dealership wouldn't touch my truck, these guys came through at a very fair price. Great, personable communication as well. I wish I could give 10 stars!

These guys are great! It can be a little scary sometimes, especially as a young adult, to take your car to a new place and trust everything will go smooth. These guys will do a thorough job and make sure that you leave happy. If ever you feel uncomfortable or disagree with what is being done, they will be more than happy to talk with you and reach an agreement point. Definitely consider taking your vehicle here if you want to work with genuine people who will put the customer first.

I just want a reliable car that works well. When I take my car to Hatfield, I know that when I leave, it will be working well. Their approach is simple, to the point, and straight forward. They do quality work and their customer service is simple and to the point. They set clear expectations from the beginning and by the time they are done, I have what I want: A car that works well. My son's car wipers were acting up. Wipers turning off and on by themselves. Apparently, this is a common issue for some Ford models. Called Trent and Dion and I was able to get the car over there around 3:00 pm on a very busy Thursday afternoon. They close at 5:30 pm. They ran some diagnostic tests and pinpointed the problem by 5:00. Son said wipers are working fine. Appreciate the great service and fair price.

the most knowledgeable mechanics I have been to. I work on my own vehicles as much as possible, but I have taken my cars here when I am out of my league. I have always been more than satisfied with the prices and time taken for the work to be completed. Mr. Hatfield knows what his staff/ mechanics are capable of and they get the job done appropriately, without attempting to tack on any unnecessary fees.

Hatfield has worked on our car twice recently on separate issues. Not only did they give us a great price compared to other chain and local shops, but they did good, quick service. One perk about having your service done here is that you can walk down the block to Seeds Coffee to wait while your vehicle is worked on.

Towed my vehicle here because it was close to where it broke down. Left note stating i thought it was the fuel pump out. Received return call from a very polite man who stated it was indeed the fuel pump. The estimate given was $773.00 to replace the fuel pump and accompanying parts. I researched the replacement of a fuel pump and question several mechanics. Ultimately it was recommended that I remove the bed of the truck and replace the fuel pump myself. I watched a youtube video that went into great detail showing how to do this. I had my truck towed to my home $85.00 and spoke to the very nice man at Hatfield's Auto Parts and Service telling him I would be towing the truck. He charged me $60.00 to tell me what I told him I thought was wrong with it. He then offered a lower price for the replacement. I declined, paid him the $60.00 estimate and was done with business with them. Ultimately I paid $123.00 for the needed parts and and had two friends to assist me and the replacement / repair was made successfully. I have mixed feelings on this experience, the estimate was heavy and the reality was that the job was done incredibly cheaper myself. The total time including going to get the part took 1 1/2 hours. Far less than the labor cost from the Hatfield estimate. Considering I broke down and towed to Hatfield's just prior to Thanksgiving and my truck sat there a week I felt he could have charged me more for my truck being on his lot. He did not. So I consider myself lucky at the mercy of an unknown mechanic that I was not charged more, however, I felt the experience helped me little and cost me. Would I recommend Hatfield's Auto Parts and Service to my mother or daughter? No. But, again, I cannot say they were dishonest and he was at least very nice and polite. Over all, I cannot give a good review due to the amount it cost me to repair, the very small amount of time involved in the repair as oppose to the estimate, yet i try not assume it was an over inflated estimate. They are, after all, in business to make money. Hope this helps.
