I'm speaking with a transmission shop in Anniston. I'd like a written estimate for a 2018 Ford Escape with a 2.5-liter engine. The company where I bought it offers a warranty and will pay for part of the repair. They need an estimate from a certified shop to help me with the costs of the transmission replacement.
They seem nice but the price to rebuild my transmission is 3 times the worth of the car. They set up financing for me for 3500. Was approved for only 1000. Didn't help at all and now I'm stuck with 1000 aamco credit card that's not accepted where I would shop. Would cancel it but they did a hard hit on my credit when I thought it was a soft hit. I mean I needed 3500. Why tease me with 1000 that I can't use now?
lol I called just to see if they happened to have my trans on the shelf. They don’t keep them on the shelf. I knew the re build price was gonna be astronomical bc it’s a chain shop, but I asked anyways. Something like $2500 and they have to has the vehicle bc this and that. That’s fine, but no thank you. I’m gonna remove and install myself I’m just looking for a builder. I was then told “ well then I can’t warranty it cause that’s where most of your problems come from.” Real professional lol. I’m a diesel mechanic and have been for 8 years. Removed and installed, I couldn’t tell you, How many transmissions. Much larger and more complex then a 4l60e . lol Just pisses me off that they rip people off this bad and have the nerve to blame said people in the process.
Took my car in they told me the transmission needs to be rebuilt so I let them rebuild. It got my car back didn’t even put 50 miles on it. Transmission went out again took it back to them. They honored the warranty, got my vehicle back probably put 200 miles on it maybe started clicking when turning thought it was my CB joint come to find out it’s my struts while I was getting that fixed the gentleman had shown me the boots were never pulled back over they were completely off Half of my wiring was never hooked up or bolted back to the vehicle so it’s just hanging there clips or just hanging there which you can tell where clean on the inside so they were clipped up before they took my transmission out and rebuilt it, then they had stripped The control arm bolt so bad that all that has to be replaced now honestly what I paid these people to do the transmission and the damage that they caused rebuilding my transmission I could’ve bought a new vehicle. This is crazy I would not recommend them for nobody because It’s just not worth it. It literally would’ve been cheaper for me to buy a used vehicle and I could’ve got a good one. It’s just crazy that people can treat customers like this especially when they fork up that much money.
If I could give zero stars, I would. First, they are completely overran with cars (whether they are waiting to be fixed or already fixed, i have no idea, but that was the 1st red flag). We took our 2003 honda in to have the transmission rebuilt in 2022. It took them around 5 months to complete, terrible communication. Since 2022 it has been back in their shop a total of 6 times, 5 of which the transmission had to be pulled back out. Apparently things like sensors & torque converters aren't included in a rebuild, but things like cracked transmissions that expand when hot are? (Yes, one time there was an actual CRACK in the transmission) Our latest visit was in April, they had it until June. Today we went to get tires only to discover what....you guessed it, another transmission leak, along with slipping gears. We immediately went to Aamco to have it checked. The man gave us a chuckle when we told him we are absolutely sick of dealing with this! Then told us the leak was "unusual"....no, for Aamco it's not unusual at all. Its actually comical at this point. Yes, we have a warranty. Yes, I will take it to them until the warrany expires. But NEVER in a million years will I pay them to do any work on any car again. I would NEVER refer them to anyone needing transmission work. Stay very far away!!
Rebuilt my grandmother's transmission we got it back and it started messing up again in less then a year took it back to them because it was still under warranty..they said nothing was wrong with it after keeping till after the warranty ran out....they said we could come get it because nothing was wrong...we have had it back almost 2weeks now, it started doing same thing as it did when we took it back after the tranmission was rebuilt. I would not recommend taking your car here.

Robert, Matt & Damion were all professional and courteous. The price for a rebuild is unbelievably high (nearly $3,000) so hopefully it lasts at least 12 months. Glad they have a line of credit available and warranty.
We dealt with an AAMCO in Birmingham several years ago but were not happy with the quality of the work or the results. So, we were quite weary of using AAMCO again. Thankfully this experience was exactly opposite.
We met with Robert Andrews, the service manager, and he explained to us our options, and the possible results. Our truck has a sealed transmission and no other shops would work on it, except the dealership. The work was done and the results were exactly as explained to us by Robert (all issues were resolved), and the price was what we were quoted, which by the way, was VERY reasonable and much less than the dealership.
We RV full time and our pickup truck is literally part of our home and more than just transportation. So trusting someone with transmission issues is a big deal to us. So, we will be back in 50,000 miles as Robert suggested, since we tow our RV a lot, to have THIS AAMCO and THIS ONE ONLY, service our transmission again.
This place is great. Since the very beginning, Robert was extremely helpful, was honest about what work needed to be done, and gave us good prices. Robert and his team will call you and give you updates on your car and work in a timely manner. I recommend AAMCO to anyone who needs work done on their car.
I've used Aamco for over 35 yrs for my transmission repairs. Recommend highly. They got a bad part the other day, no questions they fixed it totally at no cost. I'm still happy and will still use them. So should you.
Robert is a very likeable person very friendly and down to earth. They performance is excellent and they stand behind the work they render unlike other companies I've dealt with. I took my car for obvious reasons, making a clunk sound, they had my car over a week and never called me. Finally went up there and they said they didn't know what was causing it. Even told them find the problem and I have the money that day to pay cost. Maybe they do good work but once bitten twice shy
I didn't use this place because I pulled up and just parked in front of the door because there are vehicles every where no where to park! First red flag! Then I went inside old lady with no teeth sitting behind the counter looking ruff AF and there was junk everywhere! Second red flag! Didn't give it time to get to third red flag because I turned around and walked back out!
The whole team was very helpful and attentive. The young lady that assisted me was extremely kind and got my repair fixed in a timely manner. I definitely will be back. Thanks for taking care of me and going the extra mile. That was a rough day for me.
Robert makes you feel like he has always known you and he seems extremely knowledgeable when you tell him what's going on with your Auto. Valarie is very friendly at the desk. We went to them when another local shop thought we were having transmission trouble and ended up being spark plugs. We have been going back every since.
We were refered here by another auto shop that thought we may be having a Transmission problem but after Robert test drove he found we needed to have spark plugs changed in my hubby's 2005 F150. Pricey. But they had problems getting the plugs out which we were told prior to removal there could be a problem. Then we took my Ford Edge in for a Alternator Replacement. They charged a much better price then the Ford place wanted. Robert is always very helpful and makes you feel at home.
Seriously saved the day!!!! While traveling from Atlanta to Mississippi, our transmission went out. We puttered along in 2nd gear to 2 other places in the area. We called AAMCO & they told us to come on. We got there and everyone immediately jumped in to help. Not only did they go right to work, they helped us locate a rental car and hotel. They completely rebuilt the transmission in less than 24 hours. They went out of their way to make our difficult circumstance as easy as possible! We are so thankful for Mr. Robert & the whole crew!!
